The Authorised Representative in Germany

The basic idea behind the obligation to appoint an authorized representative is  to ensure a legally responsible person in the country of sale who assumes the obligations of the foreign distributor and can be prosecuted in the event of violations. The obligation already exists in Germany for electrical and electronic devices and batteries/accumulators. In the area of packaging, there will be an obligation in the future - we are already offering the takeover.

For whom

  • Companies not based in Germany that market electrical or electronic devices
    on the German market.

  • Registration with stiftung ear (Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte Register)
  • Organization of collection and disposal
  • Communication with authorities

Mandatory since

  • August 18, 2025 — Entry into force of the EU Battery Regulation
    (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542)

  • Companies without a branch in Germany that use batteries or
    Sell products with batteries remotely to Germany.
